Branding for Churches

As a creative agency that provides branding for churches, we were excited to partner with Mt. Zion and deliver an amazing final product. We kept the existing church logo and moved straight into performing type studies to determine the proper fonts to represent the church’s brand. The fonts that were chosen are modern, yet not trendy, which is what we felt best fit the desired look and feel for the brand. The Ranille font was chosen as the primary font due to its exaggerated ligature style and thick modern design that speaks to a sense of formality while maintaining a level of creativity that isn’t usually visible in a traditional serif font.  

Babicho was chosen as the secondary font due to its contrast to Ranille, with its super slender letter design and staccato nature of each letter.  Together, they complement each other and achieve the branding direction that was desired. Arial Regular rounded out the font choices and is used for all paragraphs and non-headline content. Branding for churches should always include two to three fonts that represent the church on all print and digital platforms.

Our goal was to build a website that could serve several critical functions for the church:

  • Operate as the main hub for information and inspiration
  • Welcome visitors or curious browsers and direct them to potential next steps
  • Capture contact information to build its online registry and have more meaningful follow-up conversations. 
  • House all recorded sermons in an intuitive and dynamic library
  • Promote church events and study groups with a greater reach.
  • Increase brand recognition locally and nationally. 
Since this is the first time that Mt. Zion ACOC would be online, we did a deep-dive to get a complete view of their processes and move what was traditionally done by hand or tribal knowledge into a digital format that is informing, inviting, and standardized.

Anytime we provide branding for churches we are mindful of  the digital assets that are crucial for their continued growth that may not have been considered or established previously. One of primary assets that we wanted to establish for Mt. Zion is a branded YouTube channel to host all church-related video content. We also needed to examine their process of recording sermons and how they are presented to the public, and establish a practical workflow to ensure a quality experience by the online viewer.
